3rd arr. · Haut Marais

The Upper Marais: private mansions turned museums, galleries and streets of makers.

The 3rd is the Upper Marais: seventeenth-century mansions turned museums, contemporary art galleries, workshops and designer boutiques on streets best walked without a plan. The Musée Picasso occupies the Hôtel Salé, the Musée Carnavalet tells the story of Paris, the Musée des Arts et Métiers keeps watch over inventions. At lunchtime, the Marché des Enfants Rouges feeds the neighbourhood. Our two apartments in the 3rd are on rue du Temple, the street that crosses the quarter from north to south: generous volumes, designed for families and for staying together.
